Turkeys for Tomorrow (TFT) Commends Gordon Lee High School for Sharing the Wild Turkey Legacy and Custom Call-Making with Students

Turkeys for Tomorrow is recognizing Gordon Lee High School in Chickamauga, Georgia, for its efforts to introduce students to the traditions of wild turkey conservation and custom call-making. Led by agriculture and FFA advisor Chuck Williams, students are gaining hands-on experience crafting turkey calls while learning about conservation, hunting heritage, and the importance of protecting wildlife for future generations. Through woodworking, hunter education, and discussions about stewardship, the program is helping connect young people to the outdoors while preserving the cultural legacy of turkey hunting and the conservation values that sustain it.

Turkeys for Tomorrow Signs Memorandum of Agreement with Ruffed Grouse Society

Wild turkeys and ruffed grouse may drum to different rhythms, but they share one undeniable truth: both depend on healthy, early-successional habitat to survive. That shared need is the foundation of a new memorandum of agreement between Turkeys for Tomorrow (TFT) and the Ruffed Grouse Society (RGS)—a collaboration designed to accelerate habitat restoration across Pennsylvania and beyond.

“This relationship with Ruffed Grouse Society is a long-term opportunity for us to work on a national scale,” said TFT CEO Jason Lupardus. “We’re creating early successional habitat, and that’s good for both turkeys and grouse.”

While not a merger, the agreement outlines roles, goals, and shared commitments between the two organizations. It opens the door for local TFT flocks to take greater ownership of on-the-ground projects and partner directly with other conservation groups to make measurable landscape-level impact.

Early phases of grouse habitat work offer an immediate boost for wild turkeys, providing excellent nesting and brooding cover in the first two to three years of new plans. Longer term, it enhances the broader forest ecosystem for both species.

Lupardus credits strong leadership—especially from RGS CEO Ben Jones—for helping shape this joint effort. “We look forward to many more years conducting conservation work together,” he said.

Ongoing Wild Turkey Research Experiences Unexpected Hurdles But Overcomes Challenges

Wild turkey research in Mississippi is pushing boundaries — and overcoming unexpected challenges along the way. Using innovative DNA sampling from feathers and droppings, scientists are developing more accurate ways to estimate turkey populations across public and private lands.

After early hurdles with DNA extraction and biosafety restrictions caused by Avian Influenza concerns, the research team refined its methods and got back on track. With new protocols in place, they’re closer than ever to unlocking groundbreaking insights into turkey population density, survival, and habitat impacts — progress that could redefine how wild turkeys are studied and managed nationwide.

Turkey Hunting in New Zealand: How Wild Turkey Conservation Abroad Impacts American Hunters

What can wild turkeys in New Zealand teach us about conservation here at home?

When TFT leaders traveled to the South Island to study the country’s thriving Merriam’s turkey population, they discovered surprising insights about predator dynamics, habitat, and cultural attitudes toward the bird. Despite limited cover and unique environmental pressures, New Zealand’s wild turkeys are flourishing — offering valuable lessons for restoring populations in the United States.

From research collaborations to international field studies, TFT’s mission to protect the wild turkey now extends far beyond American borders — proving that conservation is a global effort with local impact.

Tes Jolly Inducted into Legends of the Outdoors Hall of Fame

On the same day her husband and TFT Co-Founder Ron Jolly received the Wade Bourne Lifetime Achievement Award, Tes Jolly was honored with induction into the Legends of the Outdoors Hall of Fame.

Humbled by the recognition, Jolly reflected on a career spent behind the camera, capturing the beauty of wild turkeys, deer, and the natural world she’s long cherished. “Accolades were never a priority,” she said. “The outdoors itself and people enjoying my work have always been enough reward. But I’m thankful to be honored by such a prestigious group.”

For more than two decades, Jolly’s photography and writing have inspired hunters, conservationists, and nature enthusiasts alike. Her work—rooted in faith, family, and a lifelong passion for wildlife—has become a cornerstone of conservation storytelling, now carried forward through her role with Turkeys For Tomorrow.

TFT Founder Ron Jolly Honored with Wade Bourne Lifetime Achievement Award

Turkeys For Tomorrow (TFT) is proud to announce that founder Ron Jolly has been awarded the prestigious Wade Bourne Lifetime Achievement Award in Communications from the Legends of the Outdoors Hall of Fame.

The ceremony, held at the original Bass Pro Shop in Springfield, Missouri, celebrated Jolly’s decades-long contributions to outdoor media, hunting, and conservation. Named after the late conservationist and broadcaster Wade Bourne, the award recognizes individuals who have made an enduring impact on the outdoor community.

Reflecting on the honor, Jolly said, “It’s so humbling, because I knew Wade Bourne. He was the face and voice of Ducks Unlimited. He was a true conservationist. Just a gem of a man.”

From his early work with Will Primos’ groundbreaking “The Truth” video series, to co-founding TFT in 2021, Jolly has dedicated over 40 years to storytelling, conservation, and raising awareness for the decline of the wild turkey. His efforts—alongside his wife, Tes Jolly, who received the same award last year—have helped inspire a new wave of research, funding, and conservation efforts for wild turkeys nationwide.
